This is one of two pieces from "La Boutique Fantastique",
composed by Rossini and orchestrated by Resphigi. I transcribed about 14 minutes from the
40 minute orchestra suite and offer these excerpts as excellent program pieces, either to
close the first half of your program or as an encore. Difficult but musical.
this Rossini work for four oboes and two English horns. Arranged by Charles Sayre
This second excerpt from "La Boutique" is actually the finale from the
suite. Again, technically difficult but worth the effort. This could close your program or
work well as a competition piece.
This arrangement is quite unique and opened a lengthy Christmas
work for band and chorus commissioned by the USAF Heritage of America Band. All of the
music is standard wind and percussion instrumentation but this score calls for a synthesizer
to emulate the "basoukie" in the very Middle Eastern intro.
This piece was originally an orchestral arrangement premiered by the
Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. I've tried to maintain the same nuance as the original. Some
interesting contemporary harmony along with the traditional. Certainly a different spin on
this spiritual.
This piece was originally part of a 30 minute work
commemorating the Ohio Bicentennial, commissioned by the Air Force Band of Flight, Dayton, Ohio.
Some facile woodwind work! Great as an opener or for competition.
